Speedtouch modem installation -
Mac OS 10.X
Things to check first:
Your phone socket: Does it have 1 standard phone socket or 2 sockets,
one of which is a smaller square shaped connection?
If it has one socket, then follow the instructions below.
If it has 2 sockets please ignore steps 1-4 and simply plug the modem
cable into the small square connection on your telephone socket and proceed
from step 5.
1. Unplug any phone devices from the phone socket.
2. Plug the supplied speedtouch ADSL microfi lter into the phone socket.
3. Plug your telephone into the microfilter.
4. Plug the supplied telephone cable into the modem side of the microfi
lter, and the other end into the back of the Speedtouch modem.
5. DO NOT connect the Speedtouch modem to your Mac at this stage.
6. Switch your Mac on and insert the speedtouch installation CD.
7. A speedtouch CD icon will appear on the desktop. Double click it to
open it.
8. Navigate the CD to the speedtouch>OSX>setup>wan>PPPoA 1-50
directory.
9. Double click the speedtouchUSB.pkg icon to launch the speedtouch installer.
10. At this point the speedtouch installer may ask you that it needs to
run a program to detect any installation problem. Simply click “Continue”.
11. On the “Welcome to speedtouch USB Install” screen, click
“Continue”.
12. On the licence screen click “Continue” then “Agree”
to accept the licence agreement.
13. Select the volume to install the software to (The default selection
is usually fine) and click “Continue”.
14. The Easy Install screen will appear. Click “Install” to
begin the installation.
15. Depending on your Mac’s confi guration, at this point it may
ask you to enter your administration username and password. This is the
username and password you setup on your Mac when you fi rst confi gured
it, NOT your internet username and password.
16. The installation will now advise you that the installation will require
you to restart your Mac after it has fi nished. Click “Continue
Install” to begin copying files.
17. The required fi les will now copy themselves to your Mac’s hard
drive.
18. The installation routine will now advise you to plug the Speedtouch
modem into your Mac AFTER it has restarted. Do not plug the modem in now.
19. The installation routine will now optimise your hard drive. Please
be patient as this may take several minutes.
20. Click “Restart” button to restart your Mac.
21. Once the Mac has been restarted and returned you to the desktop, please
plug the Speedtouch Modem into your Mac. The USB light should turn green,
indicating it has been installed correctly.
NOTE: Please plug the modem directly into the Mac or a powered USB hub.
Do not plug it into any spare USB ports on
the keyboard, as these sockets do not provide enough power to the modem.
22. Click the Apple Menu, then System Preferences.
23. In the System Preferences menu, double Click “Network”.
24. The Mac should give the message that a new “Port” has
been detected, called “speedtouch USB” and to click “Apply
now”. Click “Ok” fi rst to remove the detection message,
then click “Apply now” on the Network screen to activate the
Speedtouch modem.
25. Click the “Show” option and from the list select “speedtouch
USB”. Under this there should be 4 tabs. The “PPP” tab
should be selected.
26. In the boxes, please enter your internet username and password.
27. In the telephone number box, please enter: 1,50.
28. Click the “modem” tab.
29. On the “modem” tab screen there is a box also called modem.
This shows which device to connect to the internet with. Click this option
and from the list select “speedtouch USB”.
30. On the bottom on the “modem” tab screen is a small checkbox
called “Show modem Status in Menu Bar”, please tick this option.
31. Now click “Apply now”, Then close the network screen.
32. In the top right on the menu bar, there should be a small “Telephone”
icon. Click this, and in the menu, click “speedtouch USB”.
33. Again, click the “Telephone” icon and then click “Open
Internet Connect”.
34. The Connection box should now appear. Your username and password should
already be filled in.
35. Click “Connect”. This should now connect you to the internet.
MAC 10.4
Additional drivers will need to be downloaded for this in order for it
to work.
Note MACs with Intel chipset will not work with the Speedtouch modem because
there are currently no drivers.
