Speedtouch modem installation -
Windows 98SE, 2000 and XP
Things to check first:
Your phone socket: Does it have 1 standard phone socket or 2 sockets, one of which is a smaller square shaped connection?
If it has one socket, then follow the instructions below.
If it has 2 sockets please ignore steps 1-4 and simply plug the modem
cable into the small square connection on your telephone socket and proceed
from step 5.
1. Unplug any phone devices from the phone socket.
2. Plug the supplied microfilter into the phone socket.
3. Plug your telephone into the telephony side of the microfilter.
4. Plug the supplied telephone cable into the modem side of the microfilter,
and the other end into the back of the Speedtouch modem.
5. DO NOT connect the Speedtouch modem to your PC at this stage.
6. Switch on your PC and insert the Speedtouch installation CD. It should
auto run. If it doesn’t click START>RUN and type x:\setup.exe
and click ok (Where x please put the letter of your CD/DVD drive, usually
D).
7. From the “Plug and Surf” menu select the “Speedtouch
USB/330 Software” option.
8. Click “Install Speedtouch USB/330 Software”.
9. Click “Next” then click “Yes” to agree to the
licence agreement.
10. Click “Next” to agree to the destination path for the
installation files (you should never usually need to change this)
11. Click “Next” to agree to the created program group in
your start menu (again, you should never need to change this)
12. The files should now copy across. Once completed, please select “Restart
Now” and click “Finish” (Windows 98SE & ME only
– please move to step 14).
13. Once the files have finished copying across, you will be on a screen
with a “Finish” button. At this point, please plug the Speedtouch
modem into a spare USB port on your PC, wait for the “USB”
light on the modem to turn green and then click the “Finish”
button. NOTE: Please plug the modem directly into your PC and not via
a USB hub (Windows 2000 and XP only – please move to step 17).
14. Once the PC has finished restarting and returned to the desktop, please
plug the Speedtouch modem into a spare USB port on your PC.
NOTE: Please plug the modem directly into your PC and not via a USB hub
(Windows 98SE & ME only).
15. The “Add New Hardware” wizard will start – follow
instructions. You may need your Windows 98SE/ME setup CD to hand. It should
automatically copy the required files (Windows 98SE & ME only).
16. Once the “Add New Hardware” wizard has finished the USB
Light on the Speedtouch modem should be green, indicating the modem has
installed successfully (Windows 98SE & ME only – move to step
18).
17. The “Plug and Surf” menu will again be displayed. Click
the cross in the top right hand corner to exit (Windows 2000 and XP only
– move to step 18).
18. On your Desktop should be a new icon called “Speedtouch Connection”.
Double click it to bring up the Speedtouch connection window.
19. Enter your username in the username box.
20. Enter your password in the password box (please note: both should
have lower case letters only).
21. Click connect. This should connect you to the internet.
22. Run Internet Explorer to view web pages configuration is set to automatic.
